If you’re a Ford truck lover, you’ll be proud when your teen decides they want a Ford truck, too. But which model is best for your teen? There are things to consider for teen drivers that older drivers may not take into account. Here’s a look at some of the best Ford trucks and why they’re great for teens.

Ford Ranger

The Ranger is one of Ford’s longest running mid-size trucks and, in many ways, perfect for teen drivers. Teenagers are new to driving, and a truck doesn’t handle like other vehicles. Starting with the mid-sized Ranger will give them experience and pleasure of handling a mid-size truck, without the pressure of a full-size truck.

An Advanced Terrain Management System is standard on the FX4 package. This system is one that would make parents feel comfortable, knowing that their teen is driving a truck capable of handling whatever road conditions they encounter. The system has selectable drive modes for grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, and sand.

Teens are far more likely to get into an accident, so it’s good to know the Ranger is tough. It’s constructed with a high-strength steel frame and steel bumpers mounted to the frame.

Ford F-150

This is a full-size truck, and should be operated accordingly. If your teen is ready for a real deal truck, then the F-150 is the best choice. The F-150 has five engine options, so you can dial in the power to what your teen can handle.

A 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine provides plenty of power for anything your teen might need. When paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain gets a respectable 325 horsepower, and 400 pound-feet of torque.

If your teen needs a truck to tow or work, the 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel engine is the perfect combination of power and efficiency. It gets 250 horsepower, 440 pound-feet of torque, can tow up to 11,500 pounds and still gets 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

Ford Super Duty

The Super Duty F-250 and F-350 trucks have the power to handle anything your teen can put it through. If your teen needs a work truck, the Super Duty is a truck that works. There are three engines to choose from depending on your needs.

The 7.3-liter port-fuel injection V-8 engine is a beast when it comes to working. Paired up to the TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission this powertrain gets 430 horsepower, and 475 pound-feet of torque. It’s built to haul heavy loads, and other strenuous duties.

Every Ford truck can be equipped with the Ford CoPilot 360, a suite of driver assist features designed to keep you safer on the roads. A pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking system scans the road ahead. When it detects a potential collision it will alert the driver, and even apply the brakes should your teen be distracted. Ford’s BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) provides visual and audio cues when a vehicle is in your blind spot.

There are many things that make a Ford truck a good one for teens. Come test drive one today, and see which truck is best for your teenager.
