With five trim packages to choose from, including the base Explorer, XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum, there is an Explorer suited to every family. Read on to learn more about the family-friendly amenities in the 2020 Ford Explorer.
Engine and Performance
No matter which model you choose, the 2020 Ford Explorer has the power to take your family everywhere and anywhere. The base, XLT, and Limited models are equipped with a 300-horsepower, turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 engine that produces 310 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel-drive is standard on these models with available four-wheel drive. The ST and Platinum models are built with a 365-horsepower, 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that produces 380 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard on the ST and Platinum models. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Ford’s intelligent four-wheel drive system monitors road conditions and your driving to send the power to the wheels that need it most. The ST and Platinum also include Ford’s Terrain Management System. The Terrain Management System will maximize your Explorer’s performance in even the most challenging road conditions, including sand, snow, gravel, mud, ruts, and steep inclines. The ST and Platinum also include self-sealing all-season tires. Properly equipped, all Explorer models can tow a maximum of 5,600 pounds. Trailer sway control is standard on all models.
Infotainment and Interior Comforts
All models are equipped with a FordPass Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, dual second-row smart-charging USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8-inch touch screen display. The base and XLT models include a six-speaker audio system. The Limited, ST, and Platinum models include a premium B & O sound system, voice-activated navigation, and three 12-volt powerpoints.
The whole family can ride in comfort in the Ford Explorer. Every Ford Explorer includes an air filtration system, tri-zone electronic temperature control, and rear auxiliary climate control. The base model and XLT include a 40/20/40 split-folding bench seat in the second row. The Limited, ST, and Platinum models include second-row captain chairs and a pass-through second-row console. All models include a 50/50 split-folding bench seat in the third row.
The Explorer boasts a maximum cargo space of 87 cubic feet behind the first row, perfect for hauling sports equipment, luggage, and more. Higher-end models also include amenities such as heated seats and steering wheels, paddle shifters, a twin-panel moonroof, and a hands-free liftgate.
Safety Features
The Explorer is loaded with modern safety features. Ford’s Co-Pilot360 system is standard on all models and includes automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, a pre-collision warning system, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. Other standard safety features include daytime running lights, a rearview camera, remote start, traction control, roll stability control, and a reverse sensing system. LATCH tethers in the second and third rows make securing car seats simple and easy.
Passengers are kept safe in an accident thanks to Ford’s suite of advance air bags, including front knee air bags and safety canopy. Ford’s SOS Post-Crash Alert System help emergency services find your disabled vehicle quickly by honking the horn and flashing the lights.
